Keynote Speakers
David Lim
Mountaineer and International Motivational Speaker Mount Everest has and will always be the ultimate prize for any mountaineer. David Lim lead the first Singapore Mount Everest expedition in 1998 and the conditions were exactly what one would imagine—hurricane winds, artic cold, virtually no oxygen. The 8,848-meter ascent was brutal, yet every agonizing step brought him closer to reaching this mountaineering pinnacle. Everest, however, had other plans for David. On the final push to the top, he sustained an injury that prohibited him from summiting. Disappointed but not discouraged, the experience was life-changing. He learned to overcome challenges, transform setbacks into learning experiences, and never give up on his dreams. Even if your goals come up short, there are lessons learned and joy to be gained through the journey. This lesson has served him well. Especially when he needed to find strength to battle his greatest test. Stricken with Guillian-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes rapid-onset of muscle weakness, David was paralyzed from the eyes down. The recovery was intense. David was hospitalized for six months, taking even longer to learn to walk again. But David’s indominable will not only got him out of the hospital but back into mountains, setting his sights on his next summit. He dominated excursions throughout the Andes, summiting Ojos del Salado, the world’s tallest volcano. He led the first southeast Asian team into the virgin Tien Shan peaks along the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border. David’s appetite for discovery is limitless. He sees adventure in all things. And is renowned for his funny and poignant presentations, sharing his adventures in the mountains and the courage to overcome any obstacle. David has a BA in law from Cambridge University and is the author of two critically acclaimed books, Mountain to Climb: The Quest for Everest and Beyond and Against Giants: The Life and Climbs of a Disabled Mountaineer. Discover how you can summit any horizon with David’s keynote presentation. He’ll be discussing how to overcome obstacles in your life and transforming challenges into opportunities for success. It’s a journey you won’t want to miss. And transforming challenges into opportunities for success. |
